From seed to vase - Our flower farm journey
Our story
We are often asked “Why flowers?”…..
Living in a region that produces many different crops, why do we choose to grow flowers?
2020 brought many changes to this world. Suddenly, we found ourselves with time! With a full-time job, business and kids in sports, we went from crazy busy to homebodies overnight. This flower farming idea was always on our radar as something we would like to do “someday” but 2020 provided us with the time and opportunity we needed to sit down and learn how to actually grow flowers commercially.
And so….The Flower Bar on Dawn Mills was born!!
For us, flowers represent the very best of people. Whether giving or receiving, flowers reflect kindness, thoughtfulness and empathy. They are given in times of celebration and sorrow, for special occasions and “just because”. They brighten up our homes and our offices. They bring smiles with their display. They offer a sense of calm in a crazy world.
Although flower farming can be hard, dirty, exhausting work - at the end of the day there is something so fulfilling seeing the absolute joy that our customers find with our bouquets.
Whether growing commercially or just for enjoyment, digging in the dirt has a way of nourishing our souls - offering a moment of peace that can often feel so desperately needed.
We hope you enjoy the “blooms of our labours”.
Picked with care
Here at The Flower Bar, plant production and harvesting is a continuous learning process. Often Mother Nature throws us curveballs that require plans to be adapted and revised. Each flower variety has different requirements for growing, harvesting and conditioning to achieve the longest vase life. We take great care in choosing blooms at their peak harvest time and providing optimum conditioning to produce a bouquet that will look beautiful for days. Bouquet quality is so important to us and we are always trying different techniques to provide the longest lasting bouquet possible.
